(NPR first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/08\/27\/nx-s1-5091154\/trump-arlington-cemetery\">reported<\/a> the incident on Tuesday.)<\/p>\n<p>The cause? Trump\u2019s staff allegedly wanted to ensure he\u2019d be photographed honoring the troops, even though federal law \u201cprohibits political campaign or election-related activities,\u201d including photographers, at the cemetery, according to an Arlington National Cemetery spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Trump\u2019s team did manage to turn the event into an opportunity for content, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@realdonaldtrump\/video\/7407571442088430878?lang=en\">producing and posting a video to their TikTok<\/a> account, set to somber music, that suggests the soldiers\u2019 deaths were President Joe Biden\u2019s fault. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had more than 6.6 million views. (The video was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/realdonaldtrump\/reel\/C_OGadvOqs4\/?hl=en\">posted<\/a> on Trump\u2019s Instagram page, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/realdonaldtrump\/reel\/C_I7d82O-tw\/?hl=en\">posted<\/a> other footage from the event, too; Trump\u2019s senior advisor Dan Scavino also shared videos on his <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DanScavino\">X page<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"tiktok-embed\" style=\"max-width: 605px; min-width: 325px;\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@realdonaldtrump\/video\/7407571442088430878\" data-video-id=\"7407571442088430878\" data-embed-from=\"oembed\">\n<section><a title=\"@realdonaldtrump\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@realdonaldtrump?refer=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@realdonaldtrump<\/a><\/section>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Should have never happened.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\u266c original sound - President Donald J Trump\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/music\/original-sound-7407571417576885023?refer=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u266c original sound \u2013 President Donald J Trump<\/a><\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can confirm there was an incident, and a report was filed,\u201d a cemetery spokesperson said. They declined to elaborate further on who was involved in the alleged incident or with what agency the report was filed \u201cto protect the identity of the individual involved.\u201d They did not immediately respond to an inquiry about whether the TikTok video violates the federal law in question.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump team tried to shut down the claims, with Communications Director Steven Cheung denying that a \u201cphysical altercation\u201d occurred and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheStevenCheung\/status\/1828575389783933439\">claiming<\/a> that the team had permission to have a photographer present. \u201cThe fact is that a private photographer was permitted on the premises and for whatever reason an unnamed individual, clearly suffering from a\u00a0mental health episode, decided to physically block members of President Trump\u2019s team during a very solemn ceremony,\u201d Cheung added. He did not immediately respond to follow-up questions, nor did the Arlington National Cemetery spokesperson respond to requests for comment on Cheung\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n<p>Cheung also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/trumpwarroom\/status\/1828634037591720433?s=46&amp;t=KenVd9Nni7DbpaZGlhXOzQ\">pointed to a post<\/a> from Trump War Room\u2014an X account run by the campaign\u2014featuring a statement from families of the fallen soldiers expressing their \u201cheartfelt thanks and appreciation\u201d to the former president for his presence at the cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has not always been respectful of the military. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2020\/09\/trump-americans-who-died-at-war-are-losers-and-suckers\/615997\/\">reportedly<\/a> called Americans who died in war \u201csuckers\u201d and \u201closers.\u201d (Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/10\/02\/politics\/john-kelly-donald-trump-us-service-members-veterans\/\">confirmed<\/a> the statement was true last year.) Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/03\/19\/politics\/donald-trump-john-mccain-dead\/index.html\">famously attacked<\/a> the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a Purple Heart recipient who served in the Navy and spent several years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. \u201cHe\u2019s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured,\u201d Trump said of McCain. \u201cI like people who weren\u2019t captured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the most recent incident, Trump\u2019s former Defense Secretary, Mark Esper, could not hide how he felt in response to the former president\u2019s latest alleged disrespect to the memory of fallen soldiers. \u201cThere is no more hallowed ground in this nation than Arlington Cemetery,\u201d Esper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/08\/26\/politics\/video\/the-lead-mark-esper-abbey-gate-trump-afghanistan-withdrawal-anniversary-hr-mcmaster-harris-campaign-tapper\">told<\/a> CNN. \u201cBottom line, the principal is that no person or party on either side should ever use Arlington National Cemetery or any of our cemeteries or battlefields for partisan political purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure
