{"id":1383,"date":"2024-08-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/america-project.org\/?p=1383"},"modified":"2024-08-19T10:54:33","modified_gmt":"2024-08-19T10:54:33","slug":"harris-campaign-accepts-teamsters-roundtable-invite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/america-project.org\/index.php\/2024\/08\/17\/harris-campaign-accepts-teamsters-roundtable-invite\/","title":{"rendered":"Harris campaign accepts Teamsters roundtable invite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Brotherhood of Teamsters said the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4818441-kamala-harris-memo-labor-union-support-uaw\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4818441-kamala-harris-memo-labor-union-support-uaw\/\">Harris campaign<\/a> has accepted an invitation to join a roundtable with members of one of the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4775411-teamsters-union-presidential-candidate\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4775411-teamsters-union-presidential-candidate\/\">largest unions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to Vice President Harris joining a roundtable of rank-and-file Teamsters to discuss the issues of importance to workers,\u201d Kara Deniz, the Teamster\u2019s assistant director of communications, told The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>The Harris campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4788423-union-endorsements-harris-biden\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4788423-union-endorsements-harris-biden\/\">has received<\/a> a number of high-profile <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4826837-national-black-caucus-teamsters-endorsement-kamala-harris\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4826837-national-black-caucus-teamsters-endorsement-kamala-harris\/\">labor endorsements<\/a> including the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4803717-uaw-endorses-harris-2024-election\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4803717-uaw-endorses-harris-2024-election\/\">United Auto Workers<\/a> (UAW) and American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), but the Teamsters have notably not endorsed a presidential candidate in the upcoming election.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4440268-trump-meets-with-teamsters-officials-washington-dc\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4440268-trump-meets-with-teamsters-officials-washington-dc\/\">attended<\/a> a roundtable hosted by the Teamsters on Jan. 31, and Teamsters General President Sean O\u2019Brien called the former president \u201cone tough S.O.B.\u201d during remarks at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4781264-rnc-republican-convention-memorable-moments\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4781264-rnc-republican-convention-memorable-moments\/\">Republican National Committee<\/a> last month in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Brien has also requested to speak at the Democratic National Convention next week in Chicago.
